Help create spaces where people feel welcomed, heard, and connected
Join the AR-Go hosting team
There’s something powerful about being met with curiosity and care. We recognize ourselves in one another, discover things we couldn’t see alone, and find room for more of our humanity.
AR-Go hosts help make those experiences possible.
As we enter our seventh year, we’re inviting caring, curious, reliable people to join our team. Whether you’re an engaged participant taking your first steps into hosting or an experienced facilitator, this is an opportunity to learn, contribute, and grow in community.
What we offer you
We’re developing a hosting pathway that combines free training, supported practice, and mentorship, in exchange for a sustained volunteer contribution.
For accepted candidates, the pathway is designed to include:
A personal point of contact. Someone to walk you through onboarding, answer questions, and help coordinate your next steps.
Practical facilitation training. Develop skills in listening, welcoming participants, explaining agreements, managing time, respecting boundaries, and responding to challenging moments.
Event guides and resources. Learn established formats with supporting scripts, templates, and materials.
Practice with someone beside you. Start with small responsibilities, then co-host and lead with an experienced host present for support.
Feedback and reflection. Debrief your practice, explore what felt comfortable or challenging, and agree on what to try next.
Technical and operational guidance. Learn Zoom, breakout rooms, scheduling, event communications, and follow-up, with team coordination for website listings and promotion.
A team to learn with. Exchange ideas, collaborate, and access support as you begin hosting independently.
You’ll develop skills through real community service. This is a pathway to hosting within AR-Go, not a professional certification.
What you’ll do as a host
Hosting involves caring for the whole event experience.
Before an event, you’ll coordinate dates and event details, prepare with your co-host when applicable, help share the invitation, and check your materials and technology. We generally encourage hosts to arrive 15–20 minutes early to connect and prepare.
During an event, you’ll welcome participants, explain the purpose and agreements, guide activities or sharing, manage time and breakout rooms, and close thoughtfully. You’ll help people participate at their own pace, including respecting their choice to pass or step back.
After an event, you’ll make room for feedback, reflect on your hosting, and complete any needed follow-up. If a concern exceeds your experience or capacity, you can bring it to Solomon or Riley for support.
You can bring your personality and warmth while respecting each event’s purpose, structure, and participant-care standards.
Two ways to contribute
Host an established AR-Go event.
Learn to guide a signature format such as Heart Lounge, Presence Playground, Conscious Connecting, or a Fishbowl sharing circle. Available pathways depend on your interests, readiness, and mentor capacity.
Bring facilitation experience and an idea.
Experienced facilitators can propose a new event or workshop. We can explore the idea together, offer feedback on the format and description, and assess how it fits AR-Go’s community. New offerings require review and agreement before scheduling.
Who we’re looking for
You don’t need to be a polished facilitator. We value self-awareness, sound judgement, reliability, and a willingness to learn.
We’re looking for people who can:
Listen closely, reflect what they hear, and check assumptions.
Speak from their own experience without diagnosing, pushing, or trying to fix others.
Respect consent, confidentiality, boundaries, and different ways of participating.
Notice their own reactions, pause when needed, and ask for support.
Receive feedback and make adjustments.
Follow shared event structures while working respectfully with different hosting styles.
Follow through on commitments and communicate early when plans change.
Hosting also carries responsibility. We expect hosts to maintain appropriate boundaries and keep the space focused on participants’ experience, rather than personal promotion or romantic pursuit. Our events support connection and discovery; they are not therapy.
The commitment
Hosting is an unpaid volunteer role. Training is provided at no cost.
Our proposed pathway involves:
Approximately three months of onboarding, with the pace adapted to your experience, readiness, and available support.
One or two events per month for approximately six months after onboarding.
Additional time for preparation, coordination, feedback, and team check-ins.
We ask hosts to plan their schedule ahead of time, help promote their events, and communicate promptly if they need coverage. We’ll discuss the full schedule with you before you commit, including the time needed beyond the event itself.
What you and the community can gain
For you, hosting can build confidence in guiding groups, communicating clearly, navigating unexpected moments, and balancing care for yourself with care for others. It’s also an opportunity to discover more about yourself in relationship and develop skills that carry into friendships, work, and other communities.
For the community, each new host helps sustain regular spaces for connection, brings fresh perspectives, and shares the work carried by our existing volunteers. Your contribution helps keep AR-Go accessible and gives more people opportunities to feel welcomed and witnessed.
How to begin
Express your interest. Tell us about your motivation, experience, and availability.
Explore the fit. Have a conversation with Solomon or Riley about what you’re looking for and what the role involves.
Get to know our events. We generally ask prospective hosts to attend three or four AR-Go events, unless they bring substantial equivalent experience. We’ll also seek observations from hosts who have experienced you as a participant.
Learn through supported practice. Begin with observation and small responsibilities, progress into co-hosting and supervised hosting, and receive feedback along the way. Independent hosting starts once readiness for a particular format has been reviewed and approved.
Expressing interest is not a commitment or a guarantee of acceptance. We consider your readiness, learning potential, availability, and the support our team can offer. If you need more time or experience, we can discuss a path towards revisiting hosting later.
Interested in taking the next step?
You don’t need to have all the answers. We’d love to hear what draws you to this work.
